Focus on what you want to create.

Growing up, my Grandpa Bill was my biggest champion and was always the first to remind me I could do anything I put my mind to.

Bill was an avid athlete who loved to play golf, and as the oldest of nine grandchildren, I’m sure I had golf clubs in my hand as soon as I was old enough to walk. I can't begin to count the hours we spent on the golf course or practicing at the driving range and putting green.

“Keep your eye on the ball,” he would say. “Set your focus on the green and aim for the pin.”

I remember the day I witnessed him get a hole-in-one on the front nine. What a celebration that was! Even at a young age, I recognized the power of intent and saw this as proof that we create what we focus on.

Much like golf, creating what we want takes time and attention. It doesn't always happen overnight. The game of mastery is taken one hole at a time. My grandpa played golf his whole life. It wasn’t until he was in his sixties that he scored a 'one' on the 8th hole. This is a memory I hold dear to my heart and a reminder that some things take time.

Through these lessons, I've learned and continue to learn that great achievement takes focused action, commitment, and patience. It's not the outcome that necessarily matters, but the focus we preserve on the course that counts.

So if what you're working on feels like a swing and a miss, keep practicing. Keep your eye on the ball; remember, you create what you focus on. Or, as my grandpa would say, you can do anything you put your mind to.
